“Am I black or white?”

"Am I black or white?"

MultipurposeMom

This isn’t the first time he’s asked this question. 🖤🤍🤎🧡

“Mom-Dad, am I black or white?”

I LOVE that in his young innocence, he doesn’t know the difference.

I pray that I can continue to instill in him that we are ALL created in Gods image.

We’ve thrown him a few fun responses that keep him questioning; and encouraged him to decide what he thinks. Truthfully though, he just doesn’t seem to grasp it.

I’ve navigated a thousand ways on how to answer this question for him in a way that’s more down to earth, and a way that he understand the whole picture; but in all sadness, I have social media echoing in my mind that no matter how I teach him, it won’t be good enough! For years we taught our boys that we don’t see color; nowadays that’s not good enough.
I realize the importance of teaching that there indeed is a difference; culturally, medically, even fashionably. But at the end of the day, when my children look at another human; whether black, white, purple, financial status, gender status, faith stance, disability, etc. I want them to know they’re only job is to view them equally with love, and kindness and respect.

For now, my focus is to emphasize to him that we are all created in the image of God. We wouldn’t treat God in anyway but humbly, and it should be the same for all mankind.

Funny thing is, i’m stressing about this; writing this post while matthia runs around skyzone attempting to make friends and play with a variety of children that just don’t know how to do the same, and i’m running out of words of encouragement.

“Am I black, or white”
So, maybe I’ll consider the advice or maybe I won’t; but tell me in the comments below;

How would YOU answer this question from you young child?
